Readings for weddings
A reading sets the right vibe and reflects your personalities
Your wedding day is a celebration of love, a day when you and your partner commit to a lifetime of shared moments and memories.
While the rings and vows you exchange are undoubtedly the most significant part of the ceremony, adding a wedding reading can add a beautiful and personal touch to your special day.
Wedding readings are a heartfelt way to share your love story and inspire your guests.
And a lovely way to include some of your family or guests by getting someone to do a reading for you during your ceremony.
Some couples find it difficult to choose a reading, but as I get to know my couples, what their personalities are like, and what their lives are like I’m pretty good at picking a few that might suit you for your day.
Here are a few of my favourite readings, some I’ve used in ceremonies, some I’m looking forward to using when the time or couple is right.
Wedding readings are an opportunity to express your feelings and love for your partner
Because you share a special love
The more you’re together, The more things you share.
The more you find new ways To show that you care…
More hopes come to mind now, More plans and dreams, too,
And all seem more likely To really come true…
More meaningful moments, More talks heart to heart,
More thinking of each other Anytime you’re apart.
More love than you’ve ever Been part of before –
More reasons for you both To love each other more.
Always love each other
If you can always be as close And happy as today,
Yet be secure enough to grow And change along the way
If you can keep for you alone Your love as man and wife,
Yet, find the time to share your joy With others in your life
If you can be as one And walk through marriage hand in hand,
Yet still support the goals and dreams That each of you has planned
If you can dare to always go Your separate ways together
Then all the wonder of today Will stay with you forever.
How falling in love is like owning a dog
On cold winter nights, love is warm.
It lies between you and lives and breathes and makes funny noises.
Love wakes you up all hours of the night with its needs.
It needs to be fed so it will grow and stay healthy.
Love doesn’t like being left alone for long.
But come home, and love is always happy to see you.
It may break a few things accidentally in its passion for life, but you can never be mad at love for long.
Is love good all the time? No! No!
Love can be bad. Bad, love, bad! Very bad love.
Love makes messes.
Love leaves you little surprises here and there.
Love needs lots of cleaning up afterwards.
Sometimes you just want to get love fixed.
Sometimes you want to roll up a piece of newspaper and swat love on the nose,
Not so much to cause pain, just to let love know, “Don’t you ever do that again!”
Sometimes love just wants to go out for a nice long walk.
Because love loves exercise.
It will run you around the block and leave you panting and breathless.
Pull you in different directions at once, or wind itself around and around you until you’re all wound up, and you cannot move.
But love makes you meet people wherever you go.
People who have nothing in common but love to stop and talk to each other on the street.
Throw things away, and love will bring them back, again, and again, and again.
But most of all, love needs love, lots of it.
And in return, love loves you and never stops.
Maybe
Maybe we are supposed to meet the wrong people before we meet the right one, so when they finally arrive, we are truly grateful for the gift we have been given.
Maybe it’s true that we don’t know what we have lost until we lose it, but it is also true that we don’t know what we’re missing until it arrives.
Maybe the happiest of people don’t have the best of everything but make the best of everything that comes their way.
Maybe the best kind of love is the kind where you sit on the sofa together, not saying a word, and walk away feeling like it was the best conversation you ever had.
Maybe once in a lifetime, you find someone who not only touches your heart but also your soul, someone who loves you for who you are and not what you could be.
Maybe the art of true love is not about finding the perfect person but about seeing an imperfect person perfectly.
On your wedding day
Today is a day you will always remember – the greatest in anyone’s life,
You’ll start off the day just two people in love.
And end it as husband and wife.
It’s a brand new beginning, the start of a journey.
With moments to cherish and treasure.
And although there’ll be times when you both disagree,
These will surely be outweighed by pleasure.
You’ll have heard many words of advice in the past
When the secrets of marriage were spoken.
But you know that the answers lie hidden inside
Where the bond of true love lies unbroken.
So live happy forever as lovers and friends,
It’s the dawn of a new life for you
As you stand there together with love in your eyes
From the moment you whisper, “I do”.
And with luck, all your hopes and your dreams can be real
May success find its way to your hearts.
Tomorrow can bring you the greatest of joys
But today is the day it all starts.
Heres to right now
You’re surrounded by your loved ones
And all are wishing you well
As you create a brand new chapter In the story that’s yours to tell
We talk about the memories You have yet to make together
And the moments you’ve already shared To be carried with you forever
But take the time to live today As your marriage begins Look around and soak it up;
The moment we are in For this is where the magic starts
When you both say your vows
You pledge to spend your lives as one
Because of the love you feel now
So yes, here’s to a future that is bright and warm and clear
But more than that,
here’s to right now,
and what it means to be here
The one
When the one whose hand you’re holding Is the one who holds your heart
When the one whose eyes you gaze into Gives your hopes and dreams, their start
When the one you think of first and last Is the one who holds you tight,
And the things you plan together Make the whole world seem just right,
When the one whom you believe in
Puts their faith and trust in you,
You’ve found the one and only love
You’ll share your whole life through
Your wedding day is a reflection of your love story.
A well-chosen wedding reading can add depth, emotion, and personal significance to your ceremony.
So take the time to select the perfect reading that encapsulates your love and the journey you’re embarking on together.
It will be a moment to remember, not just for you, but for all your guests as well.
